DVLA driving licence check

What’s this all about?

We’ve previously written about the changes to driving licences which came in to effect from the 8 June 2015. Since then, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has issued guidelines on how to check customers’ driving licence history.H

How does this affect you?

If you need to check your customer or your employee’s licence for entitlements or endorsements, you can use the Check Driving Licence service from the DVLA to review their licence information using the code your customer or employee has provided you.

Once the driver has given you their consent, you’ll be able to log on and view their full driving licence details, as well as convictions, bans and fines. We suggest you take a screenshot to record these items as currently they are not present when you print or on the PDF download.

The DVLA also offer you the option of checking by phone. You’ll need to ask the driving licence holder to call the DVLA on 0330 790 6801 and provide permission for you to run the check. You can then call the DVLA on 0906 139 3837 (calls cost 51p per minute) to check the driver’s details.
