Restaurants can be quite a hazardous place for both employees and customers. We have detailed below some tips below for keeping safe and preventing any accidents from happening.
Dining Room
- Ensure waiting staff do not carry more than they can handle and make a few trips for larger loads
- Clean up spills immediately and use warning signs to notify people of the hazard
- Make sure any mats or rugs are straightened out to prevent trips
- Remove any clutter from passageways or entrances
- Pick up any cutlery that has been knocked off tables
Kitchens
- Ensure kitchen staff wear the correct protective clothing and non-slip, closed toe shoes
- Clean up spills immediately and use warning signs to notify people of the hazard
- Notify the manager or owner if you notice uneven floor surfaces
- Make sure work stations are clear from clutter and place all utensils in the correct place once you’ve finished using them
- Use non-slip mats around slippery areas, such as the sinks/dishwashers
- Never run in the kitchen
